Baldwin Subaru Does Doggie Dash in Mandeville, LA
In 2017, Rehab Dynamics Physical Therapy approached Baldwin Motors about sponsoring an event they were hosting - the first annual Doggie Dash in Mandeville, LA. Doggie Dash is a two-mile walk/run/play for humans and their furry companions, benefiting the St. Tammany Humane Society. Baldwin Motors has a longstanding relationship with the St. Tammany Humane Society, in part due to location - it is right down the street from our dealership - and partially due to the Humane Society partnering with us for our annual pet adoption each December. Not to mention, our employees love pets! Because of this relationship, Baldwin Motors agreed to sponsor a portion of the event. The race had a fantastic turnout and helped the Humane Society out tremendously!
In 2018, Rehab Dynamics Physical Therapy approached us once again about sponsoring Doggie Dash in Mandeville, LA, but this year Baldwin Motors wanted to do more than just sponsor a watering hole, so we sent four human and two dog racers to take part in the event! This gave us a whole new perspective of the race and how it was helping our local Humane Society, a no-kill shelter.
Upon arrival that brisk Saturday morning, breakfast and coffee were served, music played, and giveaways were offered for both human and K-9 racers such as food samples, treats, and portable dog bowls. The Humane Society was in attendance with many of their adoptable dogs who they allowed to participate in the race as well. These dogs wore leashes stating they were up for adoption and their human escorts kept information on hand for potential adoptive parents.
Throughout the race volunteers pointed the way, helped direct traffic away from racers, and supervised obstacle courses. There were large water bowls at every turn and fun obstacles, such as hula hoops and ropes for the pups to run through and jump over. It was a great opportunity for dog lovers and their four-legged companions to have a fun time and admire so many sweet animals.
At the end of the race winners were announced, door prizes were drawn, and there was even a doggie costume contest. The Humane Society hung out for a while and answered questions about their vet clinic and the adoption process. Everyone at the race seemed to really enjoy themselves, but possibly none as much as a couple of our own racers.
During the race one of our employees and her husband noticed Wynona, a black lab mix, walking a Humane Society escort. They stopped to pet her, and she had such a sweet personality they couldn't stop talking about her. At the end of the race they talked to the Humane Society representatives about Wynona, introduced her to their Maltese, and decided to foster her for the weekend. After that weekend they couldn't let go. Two weeks later, Wynona was officially adopted.
Wynona frequently visits Baldwin Motors where she loves to sit in a big chair right next to her mom in the office. She gets plenty of love and scratches from anyone who stops in. Thanks to Rahab Dynamics, the St. Tammany Humane Society, and all the sponsors of Doggie Dash, our racers had a fun-filled Saturday and Wynona found her forever home.
